Yogurt is often marketed as a healthy food. Skim yogurt is considered fat-free, which is why, it
has become a big trend in yogurt. The benefits of yogurt just go beyond its high
levels of protein and calcium. The good bacteria in yogurt helps to maintain a
good digestion and improve
symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Probiotics present in yogurt may
strengthen immune system if consumed regularly. However, the probiotic content
of yogurt may vary depending on several factors such as packaging methods and
storage conditions.
Moreover, yogurt is rich
in B vitamins, especially vitamin B12 and riboflavin, both of which may protect against
heart disease. Other than that, skim yogurt also contains potassium, magnesium,
zinc, and phosphorus. Owing to its high protein content, skim yogurt may help
delay feelings of hunger and reduce the number of calories you consume overall,
thereby promoting weight management.
Apart from this, skim yogurt is known to be used
as hair mask and face mask, as it can stimulate hair growth, restores hair shine, help in the
anti-aging process, gives youthful skin, and treats acne prone skin
respectively. Lactic acid, zinc, calcium, and B vitamins in yogurt help
rejuvenate skin and make it healthy and flawless. The
lactic acid present in yogurt is the natural alpha hydroxyl acid that helps
remove dead skin cells from the face and scalp. It helps to reduce dandruff if
used at least two times a week as a hair mask.
You can make DIY hair masks and face masks by
using skim yogurt. For instance, two table spoons of skim yogurt can be mixed
with one table spoon of gram flour, one table spoon of honey, one table soon of
lemon juice, and a pinch of turmeric powder to make a smooth paste for face
pack. Once applied on the face, leave it for 15 to 20 minutes until it’s dry
and rinse off with normal water.
Similarly, a hair mask can be made by mixing
two table spoons of skim yogurt with two table spoons of coconut water and one
table spoon of aloe Vera gel. Leave it for half an hour after applying and wash
off with a mild shampoo. This DIY hair mask with skim yogurt is extremely
beneficial for dandruff management. It must be noted that plain and unsweetened yogurt is
best. It is a healthier and more nutritious choice as compared to others with
little added sugar and flavours.
Current market scenario
of skim yogurt industry:
According to a report
published by Allied Market Research, the global skim
yogurt market size is anticipated to reach $9.9 billion with a considerable CAGR from 2022 to
2031. Europe is currently dominating the market with the highest market share
and is also expected to witness the highest growth rate. This is attributed to
factors such as fast moving life of consumers, rapid growth of the
fast food industry, rise in expenditure on healthy food products by the
millennials, increase in obesity among the consumers, surge in penetration of
retail sales, and availability of skim yogurt in various flavours including vanilla,
strawberry, cherry, and coconut.
However, the outbreak of the
COVID-19 pandemic led to a negative impact on the growth of the global skim
yogurt market. The implementation of global lockdown and social distancing
norms led to temporary closure of production units, disruptions in the supply
chain, thereby affecting the domestic as well as the international production
of skim yogurt. Delay in production hampered the demand and sales of skim
yogurt during the pandemic. Nevertheless, rise in health consciousness among
consumers across the globe is boosting the demand for skim yogurt in the post-pandemic.
